Natural stone fireplaces can weigh from hundreds to thousands of pounds. We design our fireplaces using weight saving measures, but the home itself still needs to be able to support the weight. If youre looking for something truly magnificent in scale, we can create a framework structure that will save weight but give you the visual impact youre looking for. Often times we incorporate internal structural supports like modern metal wall studs and sheetrock to fill out space between the actual firebox and the desired foot print of the fireplace, or to frame out a large overmantle hood.
Theres no need to use a heavy thick stone slab when we can frame out a structure to fill the space and use thinner weight and cost saving stone cladding to give the impression of the mass you are looking for. Besides the traditional fireplace surround and mantel, we can also design overmantles with a wide variety of purposes. Overmantles can add a strong visual vertical element that ties in the design from floor to ceiling and they can be used to integrate additional features above your fireplace like a contrasting tile mosaic, or a space designed to fit a mirror, artwork, or a flat screen TV.
